Karri Kuoppala (b. 1976, Helsinki) is a visual artist currently based in Helsinki, Finland. In addition to his solo work in painting and video, Kuoppala has since 2009 worked as an artist duo together with Muriel Kuoppala (former Lässer) as KARIEL. Kuoppala studied Visual Communication in the U.K., Fine Arts in ZHGK in Zurich and in the department of painting in the Finnish Academy of Fine Art where he received his MFAs in 2008. Kuoppala has exhibited at the Kiasma Museum in Helsinki, with Mobile Art Production in Stockholm, in Malmö Konsthall, Living Art Museum in Reykjavik, European Social and Economic Committee in Brussels, Helsinki Kunsthalle and Kunsthaus Glarus, Switzerland. He had solo exhibitions at SIC, Huuto and Kluuvi Galleries in Helsinki. His works arein the collections of Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art, Helsinki Art Museum, Finnish Art Association, in the Seppo Fränti Collection and in private collections. Karri Kuoppala is a co-founder of the artist run exhibition space SIC in Helsinki and was a member until 2013.
